Analysis of Low-Power Wide Area Network Technologies for the Internet of Things

Short Description
A variety of low-power wide area network (LPWAN) standards are competing on the market for Internet of Things (IoT) applications, such as massive sensor networks or digitalization of the supply chain. Existing standards for IoT communication systems include LoRaWAN [1], mioty [2,3], or LTE-M [4]. The mioty standard is a promising candidate in terms of its excellent power consumption, security, range, and reliability. The goal of this semester project is to perform a comparison of prominent LPWAN wireless technologies and to implement a physical layer simulator for the emerging mioty standard. Besides analyzing its efficiency and robustness, the goal of this simulator is to explore new signal processing algorithms for mioty, which enable one to localize IoT nodes, for example.
