Short Description

Power management is a fundamental block in integrated circuits, especially for battery-operated systems such as the Magnetic Resonance Imaging transceiver which requires this bandgap voltage reference. In order to work correctly with the variable voltage delivered by the battery, the LDO described in another project requires a stable 1.2V voltage reference. This bandgap will have to provide a voltage which is independent of changes in temperature and other external factors such as power supply variations or circuit loading. Despite the fact that the fundation for bandgap voltage references has been presented by Bob Widlar in the late 1960s, this circuit is a key circuit in today's integrated circuits which has to be adapted at the same time the CMOS technology is shrinking.

At the Integrated Systems Laboratory, we have designed similar circuits in an older technology. This circuit will have to be designed in 65nm CMOS and will be reused in future 65nm CMOS projects.
