Short Description

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is one of the most widely used imaging modalities in medical diagnostics and research. One of the foremost trends in MRI technology has been multiple‐channel signal acquisition with detector arrays, which enhance the sensitivity and speed of the technique.

For high quality results the MRI technique relies on a homogeneous static magnetic field in the bore which is not the case in reality. When the exact field strength is known this information can be used to improve the imaging process. Therefore field probes that are exited at a different resonance frequency than for the normal operation are used for this purpose. For the excitation a RF power amplifier is necessary. In this project such an amplifier (NMR Probe Amp. in the picture) will be designed an ev. also implemented. The thesis offers the possibility to study main aspects of analog and RF design, such as noise, linearity, matching, small signal-concepts and power consumption and also to do a layout.
