Wearable technology is gaining popularity, with people wearing everything “smart” from clothing to glasses and watches. Nowadays wearables are battery-powered and a critical issue is the limited lifetime. So most devices have to be recharged every few days or even hours and thus they miss the expectations for a truly unobtrusive user experience.
The main goal of this project is to optimize a novel sensor-rich smart bracelet powered by small photovoltaic cells and other energy harvesting, designed to achieve energy neutrality even with modest energy power budget. Specifically, the project aims to study and develop the basis for low-power/autonomous systems for distributed smart sensors that (i) is low power and where possible uses self sustainable energy, (ii) adopts artificial intelligence connecting buildings, users, wearable devices. (iii) can work effectively based on a small amount of easily obtained prior information without resorting to supervised in situ training.
